USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett hits the ice with the story of a playboy athlete whose winning ways lead him to a beautiful woman with a lot to lose.

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

{ review } .
I read this book the week that Diem Brown passed away. One of my favorite pictures of her and CT in her last months makes me think of Garrett and Olivia.

A good (and I mean good) chunk of this book deals with Olivia's cancer....

...but I honestly didn't mind. Not only do we get to see it from her point of view, but also through the eyes of Garrett. He goes from never dating, to being in a super serious relationship. When you're going in, might as well go alllll in, I suppose.

It’s the first night we’ve not slept in the same bed in four days, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Every night . . . it’s felt so natural to have her fall asleep in my arms. On the flip side, I’m not sure people that just start dating really spend that much time together. Maybe I need to slow it down, as I don’t want to overwhelm her.

But then again, Olivia and I don’t have a normal dating relationship. Most people get to laugh and talk about lighthearted stuff. We get to talk about cancer. In some ways, it’s tightened our bond, but in other ways, it makes me wonder if I’ve missed out on something crucial that she may want or need in a relationship.

I absolutely loved Garrett and Olivia's story. Garrett is such a playboy with young aspects about his personality -- I mean, we start his book with a threesome.

But the moment he meets Olivia, everything changes for him. He pushes to meet her and when she pushes back because he is someone she so doesn't need in her life right now, it only intrigues him more (yeah, yeah, the whole want what you can't have thing). He treats Alex's girl, Sutton, like a sister, and when she doesn't want him to meet Olivia, her cousin, he's actually kind of hurt by it.

Olivia is so flipping strong. Rather than let her cancer hold her back, she has thoughts such as:

I want to make this life my bitch and wring every bit of juicy goodness from it before it's possibly taken away from me.

It's that thought that makes her think, ok, maybe it's alright to go on one date with playboy-extraordinaire.

I loved that Alex, Mr. I-Don't-Do-Friends, has a really great friendship with Garrett. He teases him when Garrett states he's actually taking a girl out on a second date, he's baffled when he realizes Garrett may have actually fallen for someone, and he goes all chick on Garrett and wants to know the details.

I loved that Alex was also fiercely protective over Olivia when he found out that Garrett's going-on-a-second-date was with her. On the flipside, I really loved Garrett's response to Alex's snarling -- man has it bad.

I knew while reading ALEX that I was going to love watching Garrett fall, but I didn't grasp how much I was going to enjoy his fall.

As for the epilogue, I really love ones that go years in the future. Like with SAVAGE SECRETS by Cristin Harber, it's nice to see that their love holds on especially in the case of a playboy such as Garrett ;)
