Ice-cold and unbreakable, Travis Quinn is the HORNET team’s hard-ass. No weaknesses. Except, of course, for the accident that not only destroyed his career as a Navy SEAL, but left terrifying blanks in his memory. But Travis remembers everything about Mara Escareno—the curve of her lips, the feel of her body...and how he walked out on her suddenly six weeks ago.

Mara could never resist the dangerously sexy Travis, which is probably how she ended up pregnant and disowned by her family. But before Travis can fully process the news, Mara is kidnapped by his enemies and plunged into the violent, merciless world of human trafficking. They want Travis—and the information locked within his damaged memory—no matter the cost. And now Travis’s enemies have discovered his only weakness...Mara.

Tonya Burrows wrote her first romance in 8th grade and hasn't put down her pen since. Originally from a small town in Western New York, she’s currently soaking up the sun as a Florida girl. She suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and usually ends up moving someplace new every few years. Luckily, her two dogs and ginormous cat are excellent travel buddies.
When she's not writing about hunky military heroes, Tonya can be found at a bookstore or the dog park. She also enjoys painting, watching movies, and her daily barre workouts. A geek at heart, she pledges her TV fandom to Supernatural and Dr. Who.

One of my favorite genres is military romance, or books of the sort, and I love when I pick up a new book/series/author, and it/she/he and I just CLICK.

That was the case for me and this HORNET series. I can't wait to go back and read books 1 and 2, and will be paying diligent attention to the future books, because this series has landed on my Must-Read list.

Tonya introduces us to this book by way of a New Year's party with the men of HORNET. They've had a successful mission, they've had a successful year, Auld Lang Syne, let's party.

But someone is standing back, nursing the mother of headaches.

Travis Quinn has had his head knocked around one too many times, and the daily headaches and migraines are becoming a nuisance. He's ready to hang his hat up and plans on telling Gabe soon.

But oh, Travis, you have one more mission to complete.

Mara and Travis clicked over the summer, and what was supposed to be a one time thing had Travis going back "for seconds" after a separate mission. He's no good for her and knows he'll end up six feet down before he could even imagine giving her the life she deserves...

...yet he still goes back for more.

When Mara learns she's pregnant, then doesn't hear from Travis, she assumes she's in this alone. Six weeks after she called to tell him she had something they needed to talk about, he ends up on her doorstep. As is the case with them, one thing leads to another...

Before she can admit her secret to him, though, he finds her prenatal vitamins. Hardheaded man that he is, he storms out and leaves.

But while he's hardheaded... As much as he doesn't want to (so he says) he cares for Mara and turns back... Only to see her being kidnapped. Little does he know, she's being kidnapped to draw him in -- it's his head they want and they figure he will come to them if they have her.

These two...

Travis doesn't think he's good enough for her. Between his lifestyle and the damage to his head, he can offer her little.

They both knew she was slumming it with him. And they both knew that, whatever this was between them, it had no hope of lasting very long. Still, he wanted to keep her. It was ridiculous and selfish and he knew it couldn't happen, but he wanted her as his woman. At least for a little while.

And while he saves her, he blames himself for putting her in the situation(S) she is in -- pregnant, alone, kidnapped, a knife to her... All his fault.

He's so flipping sweet on her and he doesn't see it. When he apologizes but is handcuffed, he gets frustrated because he can't hold her. He can't manage the words, but tells her to not mention her pregnancy (her baby, not theirs because he can't wrap his head around it) to help save her life.

He questions why whenever it comes to Mara, he becomes a coward. The answer, my friend, is love. He's so terrified of doing her wrong, he doesn't bother with wanting to try.

...but he does so well at loving her, because he DOESN'T try.

Watching Travis battle his demons, and in turn, watching Mara fight for their future, was a great way to round out my books for today. I specifically left it for last, knowing I wanted to be able to hold on to the story in my head for just a little bit before moving on to the next books.

My favorite part, though?

The end... Specifically, the last scene. I teared up watching this tough, once-broken SEAL while talking to Mara.

While I'm a bit biased, as they're my first HORNET couple, I would not be opposed to seeing more of these two in the future.

...you know, maybe in her cousin Jesse's book, because surely that man can find SOMEONE to love him forever.
