Cash is alive.
But who knows how bad he’s hurt.
There was an explosion, and he won’t wake up.

It’s the phone call the any Titan wife dreads, and the one that brings Nicola Garrison to her knees in tears. Crying and praying for Cash to wake up, she has one secret to tell him and now it might be too late.

“I’m pregnant. You’re going to be a daddy.”

Practicing the words a million times didn’t matter if he wasn’t coming home.

In her rush to save him, she lets down her guard. One slip. One tiny mistake. That is all it takes to let years of protecting her identity fall apart. Her time in witness protection, then at the CIA is called into question by someone who has the power to end her life—and the baby she’s carrying.

As the game of shadows and spooks, mobsters and goons comes back to hunt Nicola, survival takes on new meaning—protecting her baby, her husband, and her life—forcing her to make a choice that would kill her anyway in the end.

Rating: ★★★★★

The fourth and final installment of the Only series. Must be read in order.

There comes a time when Emma must face the secret she kept from Grayson. But she never thought it would be while she stood on stage at Emerald’s. The seconds she has to convey that her life is in danger are lost in the devastation that she sees rip through him.

She pinches her eyes closed. “Don’t leave me. No matter how mad you are, please, please don’t leave me here alone.”

But there’s more on the line than just Emma’s safety. There’s the danger that brought Titan’s Delta team in to the strip club in the first place. A threat that’s too close to home, too close to the family, the daughter and woman Grayson plans to claim.

I push away the sudden spring of fear. Life’s too unknown, with hidden enemies and unseen terrors. The idea that I could lose her again… it’s unbearable.

A love story like Grayson and Emma needs a forever love, and somehow they’ll find their way to her fairytale.

blackdawn-day1

{ excerpt } .

She moaned into the kiss and bit his bottom lip. “God…”

Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say because he stopped and left her cold and wanting. She wouldn’t beg, wasn’t that type of girl. But, inside, she could cringe and cry for something she hadn’t had in forever, a surge of passion.

“What’s wrong, Parker?”

Dark, hungry eyes studied her. “I know everything about you, except who you are.”

“I’m me.”

“Exactly.”

She wanted to forget about everything on the outside world. “What does that mean?”

“I’ve worked with you for years, didn’t know it. I protected you from your ex-fiancĂ©’s crap, didn’t know that either. You’re vulnerable and offering me exactly what I want.”

“What’s that?”

He squeezed her body. “You.”

“You’re saying no?” she whispered.

“I’m not going to take you on a couch in a safe house.” His blue eyes neared black. She’d never seen a look more intense, more at war.

He strengthened his hold on her. “You want this?”

She nodded, knowing that this kiss was all she’d ever have of him.

“You’ve wanted this?”

Her eyes sank shut. Parker was calling her on it, and she couldn’t lie. “Yes.”

Long seconds ticked by. Their cheeks touched then he pushed off the couch. “Then that’s why.”

review || HART ATTACK { blog tour }

We all have those little "shameful" things we don't want anyone to know -- guilty pleasure TV (Dance Mom's, anyone?), pickles dipped in ketchup, reading epilogues first....

Wait, no one else relates? Oy...

I know I've mentioned it in FIGHTING THE FALL, but sometimes (err... most times) I read the epilogue first. I am that lady hanging out in the book aisle at Target, reading the last ten pages of a book. Yes, that's me.

When it's an author I don't know, but the title or cover calls to me, it helps me gauge the author's writing style. It also helps me decide if it's a "must buy NOW" book, or a "put on the list" book. And sometimes, if my schedule is hectic enough, the "must buy NOW" list turns into an immediate Nook or Kindle download, and I'm reading it as I finish my shopping.

I'm not as bad at epilogue reading, I've found, with the addition of eBooks to my life... but if I really want to know how it ends... I will know. I like happily ever afters (which, of course, makes real-life painfully hard for the notoriously single, socially awkward chica over here, because I can't magically go to my epilogue and double check that life turns out OK).

HART ATTACK was one of those need-to-know books.

...and I needed to know yesterday.

I was at work, getting ready for an 0400 vital assessment on a kiddo when I finally managed to transfer the .mobi file from my email to my kindle (the file was too large the first 3 times I tried). I was getting impatient -- surely I wouldn't need my computer and USB cord to transfer this book over.

So when it was downloaded, I was jonesin' for Roman and Beth HARD. Let's be honest... I'd been jonesin' since the cover reveal... Nah, make that GARRISONS CREED.

To the epilogue I went.

And after reading the last three pages (that's all that I'd read, honestly), I broke out into a HUGE grin and thought (ear muffs, you virgin ears) "I'm so fucking excited".

...and then I had to be responsible and work, and Roman and Beth were put aside until I could read from page one.

To say I was excited for HART ATTACK, then, would be a severe understatement. And as much as I'm excited for Parker's book (BLACK DAWN!!), I'm a bit sad that this Titan group is going to be all married off soon...

Outside of Titan Group, there are few people that Roman Hart would die for. He’s a soldier, a protector, and he’s haunted that one of the people he should’ve been able to protect didn’t let him. That was years ago, and now a hardened heart and a cocky attitude are his impenetrable shields, until one woman—one challenge—drives him to distraction.

On the outside, Beth Tourne has it all. Luxury car, gorgeous condo, and a job partying with the rich and famous. It’s a plush CIA cover, but she wants more. Anything for an adrenaline rush that can override her guilty numbness and let her forget the tragedy she never saw coming.

Their scars make them perfect operatives. Their mirrored pasts give them deep, wounded reasons to stay alone. But the more they ignore the tension, the more vulnerable they become. Survival means trust. In one another, behind closed doors, and on the job. The only way they’re making it out alive is if they find peace while waging a war.

{ review } .

To begin...

Our hero is Roman, best friend to Cash; big brother to Nic; .......eye candy to Beth.

Our heroine is Beth, best friend and once-handler to Nic; eye candy and verbal sparring partner to Roman.

In GARRISON'S CREED, if you read it, you know that Beth thinks Roman's good looking, and vice versa. However, opening this book, Beth wants to stay firmly in the friends-zone. And while Roman thinks Beth is a fine-one to look at... there are times he wants to hate her -- she got years with his sister that he didn't.

But that aside...

He rather enjoys the little game they play -- verbal sparring and almost touching, always stopping just a millisecond 'in time'.

The problem is, though... to Beth it's not a game. Girlfriend has some serious hangups (not that I in any way blame her for them). She would like it to be, I'm sure, but she has a major attraction to this guy, and she can't afford to feel anything for a man.

"...but that's... not what's on my mind." His eyes held hers and the look could've melted the arctic shelf on a winter day.
"What is?" she asked, thought she knew the answer.
"Games."
Maybe she didn't. "Excuse me?"
He laughed quietly. "Doesn't matter."
Disappointment bled through her veins. She wanted to hear, 'You, Beth, you've been on my mind.'
Shit. No, she didn't want that... Actually, yeah she did. Beth bit her lip, confused and frustrated and angry.
When they do give in (which happens more than once, both during and before this story) and do some heavy-petting and whatnot, Beth always somehow manages to step away and stop the process -- hence Roman calling it a game. And while the game is frustrating, it's what he can get of Beth, so the game he will gladly play.

However, as you read and find out, Beth has a pretty gripping secret that always causes her to stop abruptly, for the hot blood to run cold, for the fears and guilt and betrayal to seep in. So while Roman is pushing to move forward... so is his sister, who is extremely pro-Roman-and-Beth.
Nicola was still laughing because she didn't know the nightmares were back. Didn't know how Beth craved and feared Roman's touch. Nicole, without the reminder being shoved in her face, forgot about Beth's history and really wanted her best friend and her older brother to get together. Beth couldn't blame Nicole. So much time had passed.
Cash pulled Nicole against his chest. "What's with you, sweet girl?"
{...}
Finally, Nicola stopped laughing and deadpanned. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Oh! I love that excerpt for the Nic and Cash-ness of it, too. Quick note while I'm thinking it (total 'SQUIRREL!' moment, I apologize). I have always loved Cash's use of 'sweet girl' when talking to Nic. Roman, being best buds with Cash, starts to call Beth 'party girl' (when she was undercover as such, and when she's not being the true Beth) and 'pretty girl'. Aw. Seems Cash has rubbed off on his best buddy. Back to your regular programming...

I love how Roman goes all protective-bear over Beth when she confides in him about her job -- even though she mistakes it for just friendly-concern, when in fact, it's one part jealousy to one part more-than-friends-concern.

And I love how Jared goes all protective-bear over Roman when he's in a hospital room and Beth is apparently in the wrong one.
Jared glared. "Get your ass up and in there, so he doesn't wake alone."
Oh, and just one more protective-bear Roman moment, but it made my heart go all soft and fluttery:
He chucked a pillow at her. "Don't sleep with him."
She laughed but her heart hurt.
"I'm serious, don't do it." His jaw muscles flexed.
I don't know why, but that really sealed the deal for me on these two. The way I read it, all I see is this big bad Titan dude, nearly pouty over the idea of her sleeping with some guy for the job... And he's pouting because he's protective, jealous, and wants her for himself.

When Beth's past catches up to her, and guilt doesn't just seep, but flow, she turns that guilt into full fledged (wannabe-)hatred toward Roman. But when she starts using harsh terms to describe what the two of them have, instead of getting mad, Roman pretty much laughs in her face.
He smiled. He fucking smiled, then crossed his arms. "Which apparently sucks for you, since you also love me."
Then as he watches her unfold, rather than panic, he's a strong wall for her to lean on. There's just something about a strong man just being there that does a girl in.

Part of what I enjoyed immensely while reading this book was ALL the side-Titan stories. I have always loved seeing Colby and Mia (Mia is, after all, the cook in the Titan family); we see Sugar often (as she's Boss Man's wife, that one's a given); obviously, we're going to see Nic and Cash interact, as they're both Titan.

But seeing a sick Rocco, and mimicking his lovely Kitten:
"You think Caterina Savage has any intention of letting the flu in our house? It'd be all, 'ay Dios mio, spray down with Lysol."
...and seeing him, head in arms on table, begrudgingly sitting through meetings but pulling up his big-boy-britches and going full Titan... I just love Rocco.

And I love Boss Man calling out Roman and Cash whenever and wherever Nic is concerned:
"You good being the eyes on the inside, princess?"
She nodded. "Of course."
Boss Man turned to Roman and Cash. "Brother or husband have a problem with that, speak up now so she can tell you to cut the crap."
Even though we do see a lot of Cash and Nic, Cash and Roman having a 'heart to heart' was a favorite of mine, as well (scene from after Nic leaves Roman's house, after he prepares a 'freaking Betty Crocker' meal of frozen entrees):
"What I've known is I've wanted Beth in my bed for a while."
"Say what you want, man. I've seen you chasing her since day one."
Roman shook his head. "Just have a hard time walking away from a challenge. A feisty, irritating, challenge.
"Roman, man, think about what you're saying."
"What?"
"Beth's not a challenge. Shit."
"I don't have it in me."
Cash's jaw worked back and forth. "You ever going to forgive Nicola?"
"Already have."
"Bullshit, man. She still feels the angry vibe. You get that, right?"
Roman ignored him.
"It hurts her." Cash crossed his arms.
"No--"
"Here it is, Roman. Since maybe your head's too far up your ass to know. [Nic] did what she had to do. And no one in the goddamn world was more devastated than me. You got that? No one. You're her brother. But she was mine. And I couldn't say a fuckin' thing. I was angry, so lost you can't imagine. But she is back and she had her reasons that included keeping your ass alive. Gotta forgive her. Gotta just let it go."
Silence. Roman rubbed his chin, not sure he'd ever heard the situation put to terms like that before, and sure as hell not thinking about it from Cash's perspective.
"Don't ignore Beth because you're angry at Nic."
"I'm not."
"Never mind." Cash laughed. "Sometimes you have to figure stuff out on your own.....You, my friend, are so far gone. And watching you deal with this?" Cash waved a hand over their frozen dinner remnants. "Makes me pretty damn happy for raw kale and a woman I can got home to...Something to think about."

 And speaking of Nic....

So we know I love watching the big, bad alpha men of (really any) romance novels break down and cry (FIGHTING THE FALL, anyone?), but when Nic breaks down? Oh my... She's one tough cookie who's made some pretty hard decisions in her young life, so watching her break was nearly as heart wrenching as any alpha male doing the same.

So while reading back over this review, it seems as if I just loved HART ATTACK for all of the revisits, I enjoyed Roman and Beth falling in love. I enjoyed watching Roman fall, and I enjoyed watching Beth struggle to accept that it's ok to move on, and that Roman was willing to stand there for her. While Roman isn't the hardass of Titan, he's also not the cuddly one, either (is there one...?). If anyone were "soft", I'd mayybeee give that title to Cash, but really he's just a happy-go-lucky kind of dude. Where Beth is concerned, though, Roman's just a big ol' teddy bear and I love him for it.

I have so many notes and highlights in this book, it's not even funny. I tried to keep some things for you, the reader, to find out on your own; if I didn't, this review would have been much... much... much longer, trust me.

Thank you, Cristin, for bringing Titan alive again. I will be terribly sad when their chapter is closed, but excited to see where Delta is going..!

HART ATTACK { release day blast }

Let me just start this post with this:

It's here, it's here, it's finally here!!!

Ok, now that that's out of my system.

I'm SO excited for you to read HART ATTACK. It's really no surprise that I loved the book so much, but I really wasn't prepared to have my number one slot, that's currently split two-way between Rocco and Colby, to have to be a three-way tie with Roman. I mean, I always knew that I liked Roman, but da-ang, do I like Roman.

Be sure to come back around on 11/20 for my review. Hint, it's 5-star worthy :)

EXCERPT

Her lips tingled for wanting feel his against hers. When he stepped away, she couldn’t stand losing him. Her fingers grabbed his thick arm before she could think better of it.
Roman looked at her hand then at her. “Don’t tempt me, Beth.”
None of the reasons to stay away mattered when she needed to forget everything. “But—”
Roman backed her against the wall, hands crawling up her arms, down her back. His body was too cut, too big. Too much to want to say no to. She arched into him, on him, her breathing far too stilted.
His fingers traced her jaw, his lips so close to hers. “You’ve changed your mind?”
No. Maybe. “Yes.”

HART ATTACK { sneak peek offer! }

I finished HART ATTACK last week and oh my goodness... It's probably one of my favorite TITAN books. Now, I know I don't have many TITAN reviews up (yet) but it is in my grand plan to back-blog all of them. I am in love with this series. Full on love, over here.

Little back story, which you'll eventually see in it's whole --

I was introduced to Cristin when SAVAGE SECRETS was free on Kindle. Instantly, I fell in love. Many times, the first book I read in a series, regardless if I'm reading the series in order or if I'm handpicking them here and there, will be my favorite. This is pretty much the case when it comes to TITAN. Rocco and Cat's story is my favorite; however, I decided to read the rest of the books in order and instantly fell in love with Colby and Mia. So between SAVAGE SECRETS and WINTERS HEAT, I had 2 top favorites. Don't get me wrong, I have loved every other book in the series, but those two have shared the top spot...

...but now Roman has made his love story squeeze in between Rocco and Colby. I now have a three-way tie for my favorite TITAN book.

So, without going further into it all -- you should pre-order HART ATTACK today. You will be oh-so-glad you did. Go meet Roman and Beth. I don't think you'll regret it.

HART ATTACK  by Cristin Harber releases November 18th and InkSlinger is offering an exclusive sneak peek to everyone who preorders!

WINTERS HEAT -- a review.

A week before reading WINTERS HEAT, I was somehow introduced to Cristin Harber through SAVAGE SECRETS. I'm not entirely sure how she (being Cristin) ended up on my Nook feed; perhaps another author mentioned her on Facebook. However it happened... It happened.

So, I read SAVAGE SECRETS first -- and I absolutely loved it. When I read series, if I don't start them in the beginning, I tend to have a difficult time starting over. For example, I'm super excited to read Roman and Beth's story because I can hopefully see glimpses of Cat and Rocco. I have a hard time 'rewinding' and seeing characters unattached to whomever I know they will ultimately be with.

Winters Heat popped up as a free book (and hey, look, it still is!). It is book one in Cristin's Titan series so I figured, where better to start 'starting over' the series but with book one. Initially I figured I'd read Sweet Girl when it released, then move onto Garrison's Creed... maybe pick up the other books here and there but not really have a true interest in them.

Boy, was I wrong.

Thank goodness for small favors (such as Winters Heat being free -- it really expedited the process).

I fell in love with Mia and Colby pretty much on page one. The attraction, their banter, the laughs... oh my goodness, do I want a man like Colby to tear-gas his way into my life.... sans all the kidnapping and trafficking, of course.

Publication Date: January 19, 2014

What is it about Colby that I love so very much? It's really hard to say. He's funny, he's attractive, he likes to push Mia's buttons... He's just a good guy. He's a bit of a smart ass...
"Next time he was offered a cakewalk assignment, Winters would ignore his sweet tooth."
"Maybe he could make a list of everything that could go wrong today and see how close he came by the time it was lights out."
"Dear God, let there be an immediate exit... The GPS interrupted his prayer... What do you know? He should pray more often."
...but he's equally super softhearted.

Colby and Mia's story starts out with a, as Colby states it, cakewalk of an assignment, in which an untrained woman thwarts his plans. Cakewalk becomes messy. The woman, being Mia, becomes the monkey in the middle between Colby's mission via Titan, and the bad guys. Jared has given Colby direct orders to not make a scene, so he lets the goons take Mia -- but of course he follows them, because Mia has what he wants. Barreling in the motel room with tear-gas, Colby rescues Mia but in turn gets kicked and yelled at on the drive to his final destination.

Colby, who goes by his last name of Winters, pushes Mia to call him Colby. Excuse me, dear reader, but this must mean he's attracted to the lady. What I love about this, though, is later? When they get into a fight? She calls him Winters, and it just grates at him. I love it.

Do you know what Cristin does well?

Super emotional scenes.

We'll get into the most super emotional scene in the history of ever when we get to SAVAGE SECRETS, but Colby and Mia have a pretty spectacular fight in WINTERS HEAT.
"'Mia, you're not moving. You're not going anywhere.'
'Typical subject change. Resort back to orders. Classic, almost cliche.'
'I'm serious.' He looked serious, but he was always serious, and when it came to them, he was wrong.
'Your directives don't matter anymore, Winters.'
'Stop calling me Winters, damn it.'
She ignored him, needing space for clarity, and shuffled toward the kitchen. Regaining her wits, she said, 'I'll call you whatever I want. Asshole. Jerk. Liar...You led me on. And the whole it's-not-you, it's-me spiel? I expected more creativity.'
...'I was protecting you.'
'For God's sake. From what?' she screamed and threw a mug against the wall. 'I survived crazed men and kidnappings. Plural!'
Standing in the middle of the shattered mug, he paused and took a breath. 'None of that would've happened if it weren't for me. If you didn't know me, no one would have chased you, no one would have kidnapped you.'
Mia wanted to run away, but the ceramic shards and bare feet kept her in place. 'If I didn't know you, then I'd be dead in a cheap motel room in Louisville, Kentucky. You saved me.'
They were in a standoff, need versus emotion. Their eyes locked. Her stomach tightened, electricity buzzing around their showdown.
Crunch. He stepped closer.
'Don't you dare kiss me, Winters.'
'Colby.'He took another step. His boot crunched more broken mug. 'The name's Colby.'
'Let me make this clear to you. You hurt me, and you should leave.'
...His last step closed the distance. 'Not a chance.'
He clasped his hand under her hair, leaned over, and breathed in. Her heart stilled. Her breathing stopped. His sweet lips crushed over her mouth, and the world froze before her lips swept against his...
 Oh, sigh...

But really, when she throws the mug? LU-UHVE it.

Just like I love Mia and Colby altogether. I think you'll love them, too. So, if you don't already know Titan, maybe you should go introduce yourself to them. Any book would do -- you really don't need to read them in order and they could be standalone books, but I suggest you start at the beginning.

{COVER REVEAL } i'm so excited & i just can't hide it

I am sooo stoked.

When I received this email from Tara at InkSlinger PR (THANK YOU!!!), I was literally jumping for joy -- hard to do, as I was working, but it was happening. Lots of happy vibes going through me.

The Titan Group is a favorite of mine. Cristin Harber is a favorite of mine. Roman? He's a favorite of mine, too (but Rocco and Colby are my main men). When reading Garrison's Creed (a review will come, I promise you), you're introduced to Beth, Nicola's handler. Beth thinks Roman's cute. Roman wants the 4-1-1 on this pretty girl from his sister's man, who just happens to be his best friend as well.

Every little teaser Cristin has posted on her Facebook of these two has just had me begging for more.

So without further ado....

We are so thrilled to share the cover of HART ATTACK with everyone today! HART ATTACK releases this November and Roman's story is one you won't want to miss!

About HART ATTACK

EXCERPT

Roman backed her against the wall, hands crawling up her arms, down her back. His body was too cut, too big. Too much to want to say no to. She arched into him, on him, her breaths far too stilted.

His fingers traced her jaw, his lips so close to hers. “You’ve changed your mind?”

No. Maybe. “Yes.” Thick air filled her lungs, rabid hunger made her lust drunk. The warmth of his almost-there kiss teased her without touching. “I changed my mind.”

He took a step back and bumped his fist against the wall over her shoulder as his head dropped back. “Fuck me.” He took a shaky breath in. “You’re drunk. I’m not. Let’s go before I become the asshole prick you think I am.”

DELTA: RETRIBUTION -- a summary and opinion

I need to go to bed.

Badly.

I woke up at 2:30 pm yesterday afternoon, saw an apartment, went to the gym, worked a night shift, and here I am, ready for bed.... (except I'm still in my scrubs so maybe just mentally I'm ready for bed).

Except I read a really good book and I just have to write about it, because if I don't, I'm afraid I'm going to lose all the excitement I have about it and the review will just fall flat.

...which is what I should have done with all the Cristin Harber books I've read, but guess I'll just have to re-read them specifically for this here blog. Such a hardship. Mia and Colby? Cash and Nic, times two? Rocco and Cat? Yeah... I think I can maybe handle another round of them.

But they're Titan. Let me tell you about Delta.

Delta: Retribution is the first book (novella) in a spin-off of the Titan series Cristin is writing (Roman and Parker still need full-time permanent loves). But while Roman and Parker are moseying about their business, Jared, aka Head Honcho, Mr. Boss-man himself, has put together a new team -- a ghost team. To lead said team is his once-second-hand-man, Brock (who wronged Jared once upon a time, but I'll go into all that jazz when I go back to the rest of them Titan boys). Brock and Jared go and search out a certain Trace Reeves, former SEAL who has some emotional baggage and a rather large demon that is keeping him as firmly away from four-walls as possible.

Hit the brakes. Let's go back a bit. How about to where we first meet Trace?

Trace first meets this fiery red-headed lady (Mallory?) and after a hot night (why is it with this unknown woman he can finally breathe again, that everything slides back into place?), and promise of more in the morning -- well, he gets walked out on. Women don't walk out on men. It's the other way around... So why is he so jilted over this girl's leaving?

While it nags at him, he moves on. He's not a forever-and-ever, fairy tale guy. NOW.... Now, here come Jared and Brock pounding on his door and offering him a pass to pretty much do whatever he has to do to fight his demons. He just needs to answer to Titan, and Uncle Sam will let him go and revenge his twin brother's death.

Reluctantly... with some outside prompting... he joins the team. However, much to his dismay, the team is grounded nearly immediately into this newest unwanted adventure and he's given keys to a fancy car and a townhouse. Nice... but four walls that close in on him.

Not what he signed up for.

Luckily for him, the team is called in for a mission before he can tear down the walls. As a ghost team, Delta is given little detail -- they get the information they need to perform their extraction and that's it. No need for personal information.

Go in, get the girl, get out.

But when they get the girl, her voice is familiar.

Her stance is familiar.

The attitude of the woman holding a gun in his face is familiar.

Turns out Mallory, or rather Marlena, is pretty brilliant in the science department and has the ability to produce a pretty dangerous virus.

Marlena has grown up with a belittling father who leads her to believe she will never amount to anything. No one will love her, no one will appreciate her, she's stupid, and has nothing to offer to anyone or anything. When a person is told that enough, they believe it.

So yes, she walked out on Trace... but there wasn't anyway in hell he actually had wanted her to stay anyway.

So why, then, after they part ways when this gig is up, does he keep calling her? And when she hangs up on him, he shows up? Or why when he hangs up on her.... she shows up by him?

The two are drawn to one another -- both are pieces of a whole. Both have issues. Both have moments of crazy. But when the two are together, Marlena feels a little bit like the fairy tale princess Trace calls her, and Trace doesn't feel the walls closing in on him.

They work well together.

...even when they have a little tift (which Rocco would have loved to witness, no doubt in my mind, because there are so many holes in the conversation), they keep up with eachother:

"You're a hot, bossy mess, Cinderella."
"I said I was sorry," she said.

"Doesn't mean I can't call you on it."
"What the hell are you two talking about?" Ryder asked.

In Titan fashion, Ryder would be Rocco... but really, Rocco just watches, amused, with his head volleying between the sparing participants. He enjoys a good soap opera.

Anyhow, I digress.

I love how Mar, as insecure as she can be, is truly courageous around Trace. He makes her a stronger person. When he starts pulling her emotions around (come here, do this, I want you, I don't want you, we don't work), she calls him out on it and accurately pins him as selfish, stating he's 'the one fucking with [her]'.

And maybe it just takes Cinderella to run out on him one last time, fires blaring and words haunting, to make him realize the fairy tale could actually work for him.

Trace, as secure in himself as he is, needs Mar to ground him. She makes his life make sense. With her, he's happy. He was happy right away around her, but he felt like he was dishonoring his brother by being happy and moving on with his life. Mar helps him past that.

I did also enjoy the non-conversation Trace had with Brock, when Trace was trying to be all manly and prove it was ok for him to have a girl at home, because hello, Brock had a girl at home, too. ...and then Brock put him in his place by throwing out the accurate title of 'wife'.

... ... ... to which after a few seconds, he then backed up by saying that yeah, maybe they met when he and she were Trace's age.

And while it wasn't a full conversation (because Brock's own demons aren't ones I see him airing out to the new guy on his team anytime soon), I think it definitely helped push Trace in the direction he ends up.

I once wrote Cristin, begging for an ARC of one of the Titan books, saying that I loved her style of writing, and that she was my new Maya Banks. Titan is right up in the ranks with my love of KGI.

Delta, I am 1,000% sure, will live up to it's hype.

I'm so very extremely excited to read more.

SWEET GIRL -- a summary and opinion

And here come the Titan team!

I've now read all of the publications in this series, and was having a hard time trying to decide how I'd review them, or rather... in what order.

Do I start with Winter's Heat, because it is book one in the series? Or do I begin with Savage Secrets, because that's the book that introduced me to the series?

Do I start with Sweet Girl, which really is a novella, a prequel, and is the "latest" publication in the series (releases July 7th!)? But before doing Sweet Girl, should I really review Garrison's Creed, because that's the Titan book truly connected to this novella.

Oy, vey.

So I'm starting with Sweet Girl.

...because while it's the latest to be written and published, it really sets the stage for the entire series.

Like I said, Sweet Girl is the prequel to the Titan series; it takes place before Titan is formed.

In the Titan series, we meet Jared Westin (Westin's Chase), Parker (book coming soon), and all those boys -- Roman (his book is next!), Cash (Garrison's Creed and Sweet Girl), Winters (Winter's Heat), Rocco (Savage Secrets) and Brock (Gambled, a novella).

Sweet Girl follows Cash and Nicola, and therefore her brother, Roman. While Titan was founded by Jared, the events of Sweet Girl mold Roman and Cash to become the ops they eventually become, as this book takes place during Roman, Cash, and Nic's college years.

Cash and Roman have been best friend's forever. As such, Cash and Nicola have also been friends forever.

Cash has always found Nicola to be pretty, but 'bro code' is always pretty fierce between guys, and there is no way Cash is going to be panting all over Nic, even if he wants to. Cash also has quite the reputation with the ladies; when another college guy, the star quarterback, starts making moves on Nic, Roman groans and talks about how he and Cash had to save Nic from the players that were like said football player; with Cash's reputation, he understands that to mean him too.

Well, Nic has had enough of it. She battles her nerves and she makes her move on the one guy who has held her interest for years. While Cash and Nic's romance seems rushed (kissing, to sex, to intimate secrets and I love you's, to Cash getting ready to propose -- none of this is truly a spoiler if you've read the books in the correct order, as this is all mentioned in Garrison's Creed), it's really not rushed when the reader takes into account that this novella, this few months into the lives of Nic and Cash, is simply that -- a few months out of the years they've known eachother. They've been circling eachother forever; so much so that once it finally happens, every emotion and thought combusts and it all lines up the way it's supposed to...

...until Nic's internship takes a disastrous wrong turn.

...and she dies.

...and Cash is heartbroken but really can't show it more than just the 'her brother's best friend and her friend' role, because Cash and Nic never got around to going public (at least to Roman, the dense, unassuming guy) about their relationship. So he can't be the heartbroken fiance -- he can just be the sad friend.

In passing, he meets a soldier, who tells him about military. Military is not the route he's taking at this point, but after all that happens with Nic, Cash makes a phone call to Roman -- end scene.

And the rest is history ;)

...obviously they joined the military. Obviously, only because the Titan series goes into this.

I was extremely happy and excited to get an early copy of this book. I fell in love with Rocco in Savage Secrets and took a gamble into the rest of the series, reading Winters Heat next (it was the free Nook book one day). I love every single character in this series. Once I got to Garrison's Creed, I was a little apprehensive simply because I knew how much I loved Rocco and Colby Winters, but I also knew that Cristin loves Cash and Nic -- she doesn't hide this in her blogging, her Facebooking, whatever. She is open with the fact that she loves Cash and Nic. So I was hopeful that I'd love Cash and Nic, too.

And with the opening chapter of Garrison's Creed.... yeah, I was right there with her.

When it was announced that Sweet Girl was the prequel, and was exploring the open holes that were spoken about in Garrison's Creed, I was interested in reading it simply to get a better feel for these lovely characters.

...and I love them even more, fully knowing the struggles they (Cash and Nic) faced before getting to where they finally meet again (and fall in love for good) in Garrison's Creed.

......but I'll get into Garrison's Creed later ;)

I guess my only issue with Sweet Girl was a discrepancy between Sweet Girl and Garrison's Creed. In Garrison's Creed, they talk about things like "remember my job in college" (of course he remembers your job in college, Nic; you complained about the fact that things weren't adding up, literally, and he told you to just walk away from it). The biggest issue, though, was in Garrison's Creed, when Nic tells him "...I actually had a crush on you way before college. Like sixth grade."

My issue with this comes from Sweet Girl, when Cash tells her that the moment he knew he was in love with her was actually during his Senior homecoming. And I suppose during this conversation, Nic doesn't say she was in love with him at this point, too; so maybe it really was 'like sixth grade' for her.

I do want to point out that while reading Sweet Girl, I kept referencing Garrison's Creed, and re-read that book twice while reading Sweet Girl.

So yes, Cristin, I love Cash and Nic, too.
