{ arc } review || FLY by Molly McLain

March 14, 2016 | New Adult Sport Romance
Velocity, book 1

Meet Colton Wade, FMX rider...

I’m just a small town guy who caught a lucky break. Now I’m living the dream, on the brink of high-flying super-stardom. But something’s missing.

That something is Taylor.

She’s my best friend. The one who makes me want to push harder and higher. The one I fall back on when shit gets tough. The one I’d give it all up for.

I’d do anything to protect her. To make her dreams come true too.

But a single night changes everything.

And now the one she needs protection me.

{ review } .

Molly McLain has proven to be a strong author in the contemporary romance field to me, so it should come as no surprise that this new adult turn she's taken would be anything less than fabulous.

I absolutely love best friends-to-lovers tropes only because there is simply so much at stake if something were to go wrong. Colton, dirt bike rider extraordinaire, has been in love with his best friend for years, but has refused to take that next step. He values Taylor too much to hurt her -- even though he's absolutely certain they could be nothing short of amazing together.

I loved that while Colton wanted more with her, he wasn't pushy with it. While, yes, in a career-type way, he did put himself first, but for his outside influences, his 'people', Taylor was always number one. She was the first he called after a run, she was the first person he wanted to see when coming home -- heck, she was the reason he came home. Taylor and Colton had always been thick as thieves, but he wants more

These two musketeers, though, have/had a third too. Matt was both of their best friend, and while he's more verbal about wanting Taylor (but still semi-respecting her wishes at remaining friends), he's not afraid to tell Colton what a DB he's being where she's concerned -- and as much as you want to hate Matt, you can't help but root for him, just a little bit, because he shows both Taylor and Colton the errors in their ways.

Colton finally talks Taylor into coming out to Vegas with him for one of his runs, and it's there that everything changes -- and just when you think everything's looking up? It all has the ability to fall down.

It's Taylor's turn to do something for herself -- will she take it, or continue to follow in Colton's shadow, a place she's been comfortable in for most of her life. She's a giver, a doer, and loves Colton with all her heart. But when is she going to show her own love for herself?

This story is just the beginning. There's more for Colton and Taylor after FLY -- and it cannot come soon enough. We get a cliff (expected in this type of series), we have questions... And in time, we will get answers. Book 2 needs to happen NOW :D
