I am loyal, but I will betray you.
I am strong, but I have scars.
I am an angel, but the devil.
I met her when I was sixteen and she was a breath of fresh air. She swooped in, making me smile. But then she left, taking my next breath with her.
Her smile could light up a room, making my black heart pitter patter.
I found her again ten years later, with a syringe in her arm.
Blood coming from between her legs.
She was broken and I was glad she was broken. She wouldn't think less of me and my damaged ways.

The beginning of this book is written in a way that leaves the reader feeling mysterious vibes. We flip back and forth between "Black" and Rose's points of views, but not without first a prologue from when they were young and seemingly innocent (even if Rose is a bit coo-koo sounding at times), to a moment where the last ten years, ten years Black wants to forget, are all blasted at him in a single moment.
Liam Black, Black to all but Rose (as much as he hates her calling him Liam) has a dark, dark life. He believes in the black that surrounds him. The only person who ever brought him light was Rose, of the long blond hair and the quirkiness of a sweet high schooler. She's no longer sweet, no longer quirky. Choices that have been made through the years stole that from her -- Black stole that from her.
This book had it's moments for me, but for the most part felt a bit choppy in my opinion. That is not saying, though, that the emotional component of a well written romance was not there, because it was. I enjoyed watching as Rose fought for her life back, and as Black fought the need to keep her away from his dark sides, yet still craved her -- through everything, he recognizes her and craves her.
Be warned, we leave off on a cliff. I am more than excited to see how Red takes us!

A wound to the heart, a hole so deep.
Can it be fixed?
Or simply replaced?
People lie. Those closest to me, tell the most lies.
Do they not know who I am? What I’m capable of?
Sometimes I wonder if they do. Because when I unravel their lies, they will be delivered to the hell I once visited. And it won’t be pleasant.
