Once they shared a night of passion. Now a chance encounter forces them back together. In Cecy Robson’s O’Brien Family series debut—perfect for readers of Monica Murphy and J. Lynn—two total opposites find that the flames of desire are still smoldering.
Tough-as-steel cop Curran O’Brien is quickly rising through the ranks of the Philadelphia police department. But when his rookie partner is almost killed under his watch, Curran just wants to prove he still has what it takes to walk among Philly’s finest. So he’s pissed to be stuck on a cushy security assignment for the DA’s office . . . until he gets a good look at the sweet, straitlaced intern he’s supposed to protect—but not touch.
Tess Newart recognizes Curran instantly. How could she not? Back in college she tied this former frat boy to the bed with her argyle socks! That sizzling one-night stand was the only indiscretion Tess ever allowed herself. She has survived law school so far, despite being pushed to succeed by her overbearing father. Now that she’s interning on a major case against a ruthless crime boss, she won’t jeopardize her career by giving in to temptation again. She just never expected temptation to look so damn hot in uniform.
Tess knows her father has other plans for her, and they don’t include Curran. But soon she’s falling for him all over again. And when danger emerges, Curran will prove just how good a bad-boy cop can be.

A full-time writer, registered nurse, wife, and mother living in the South, Cecy enjoys spending time with her family and silencing the yappy characters in her head by telling their stories.{ review } .
In Cecy Robson's newest series, a spin-off from SHATTERED PAST, we get the O'Brien clan -- and what a fun, Christian raised, street tough family this is. I'm sure we'll see more in Declan's book, but with this family, you can take the O'Brien out of Philly, but you can't take the Philly out of an O'Brien. I loved Curran's rough around the edges thoughts and words. I loved his possessive tones and quirky eyebrow raises.
The one part of ONCE KISSED that nearly had me putting the book down on multiple occasions to pursue other projects would be Tess. In the beginning, she's a very insecure woman. She has her reasoning and they all make absolute sense -- from her need for approval and her desire to blend in. Her thought processes, when negative, began to grate at me, though. While completely appropriate and in character, I was yearning for her strong moments, because I knew they were coming.
What I loved most about Curran was that he allowed Tess to bring out her inner vixen, her sassy tongue, and her true smiles. It was so much as permission from him, but acceptance, that allowed Tess to be her true and full self. He's the only person to have ever gotten that from her -- and those moments, the ones where she's strong and independent and quick on her feet, those were the moments I found her the most endearing.
And, for you SHATTERED PAST fans... I love seeing old characters! It was obvious that we'd see Killian and Sofia, as Killian is one of the O'Briens, but we get to see Brody and Lety too! And while, in a round-about way, Lety is 'family', as she's Sofia's sister, it's one of those connections that doesn't make it necessary to integrate her into the O'Brien series.
So. While there were aspects that drove me batty, the fact that Cecy found a way to bring another great family into the writing world made me super happy. From the glimpses in ONCE PURE, to the full-out meeting here in ONCE KISSED, I know without a doubt I'll love this O'Brien family -- so due to the great open to this newest series, I'm giving the full five. Next up? ONCE CROSSED. And I'm assuming it belongs to Declan and Melissa...
