Recoil, book 2
★★★★
SOURCE: HOT TREE PROMOTIONS
Julia and Colin no longer think of themselves as step-siblings. As much allies as lovers, they have more immediate issues. Like how to seek out and destroy the Russian Mafia-connected group that hounded her father to death, and what to do about the workplace harassment of Julia by a man with a secret, violent past? But the most dangerous issue of all might be what happens when Julia’s mother discovers her daughter and step-son have acted on their mutual attraction...Recoil, Book Two is the second novella in a serialized trilogy. Book One is already out and available at http://geni.us/Rg2 and Book Three will be released February 12th!

Like you, I’m a reader. When I read a good story with characters I can connect with, my everyday existence fades into the background as I enter a world that may contain exotic locations, adventure and excitement. And, if I can be totally honest with you, in my favorite stories I can fall in love for a while with an impossibly gorgeous guy who is the best lover imaginable. So, maybe it won’t come as a surprise that in my books you’ll find hot alpha male book-boyfriends, sassy heroines who are much more clever and beautiful than I am, and stories I hope will make you laugh and cry while reading them, as I did while writing them. Oh, and some scenes you may want to role-play with your lover.
When I’m not writing (which is almost never) I enjoy reading, hiking in the foothills near Denver, live blues music, karaoke and now and then indulging in her karaoke habit.

As I came more fully awake, I became aware of something else.I was naked. And I wasn't alone.
The memory of the previous night came rushing back, followed quickly by the realization I was still in Colin's bed. Which jerked me out of the remnants of sleep to a sitting position in a matter of a split second.
Clearly I'd lost my mind. And if Colin's barely heard and barely remembered words as I went to sleep in his arms earlier were true, so had he. He loved me?
It couldn't be. I'd misheard, or hallucinated, which was another worry. If I'd hallucinated that, it must mean I wanted it to be true, and I didn't – couldn't! My mother would kill me. She'd barely had time to live down the scandal of marrying up in financial class, with my dad so recently dead. To have her daughter linked romantically with her stepson would be the last nail in the social coffin.
I couldn't fix Colin's little problem this morning. Okay, big problem. There was certainly nothing little about that erection. That gorgeous, yummy... Oh, what was the use? I was already in deep shit. I might as well enjoy myself one more time.
{ review } .
Colin and Julia are, for the most part, over the whole "our parents are marrying/married" thing (which makes this an enjoyable so-called 'step-brother' romance for me, personally), and honestly, the only person who truly cares is self-righteous Audrey, who I could still care less about. In my opinion, what nice, welcoming Ian sees in cold, aloof Audrey is beyond me but... It's fiction.
Colin again, shows his protective side in this part and with it, we get to see how much he cares and at the same time, see Julia's questioning his feelings. She doesn't think they're there, but as the outsider, we see just how much she's wrong.
There's a pretty defining moment in the suspense plot of the story, and with it specifically, we see how much Colin cares for Julia. Is it a bit quick? A little, yes, but in some serials it's easy to forget the timeline. I will say, though, that the deeper we get into this story, the more I wish it were published as one-title.
