Thanks for having me over to celebrate the release of DIRTY, Mignon!! I’m happy to be here ☺

One of the biggest questions I get from people once they discover that I’m a romance author is: What’s a typical day like for you?

My answer: There is no typical.

I’m lucky enough to be a full-time writer these days, which makes the actual writing go easier some times, and more difficult other times. I have a young son, so he’s the priority no matter what. But when I had another job in addition to writing, I had to be very focused. And that meant when I sat down to write, I didn’t goof off.

Now…well, let’s just say, it can be hard to focus.

My 2016 resolution is to get up early to do my writing, and then save the rest of the day for marketing, editing, and business admin sort of activities. So I like to write from 5:00am-7:30am; get my son up and off to school; jump back into writing from about 8:30-11:00am; try to workout at least a few days a week; business-type work from 12:00-4:00; family stuff and chauffer duties in the evening; read with my son before bed; and then back to plotting or organizing in the evening.

This year, I’m also trying to have some of my writing sessions outside of my house because it gets a little lonely. Plus, I need a reason to get out of my pjs. So far, I haven’t accomplished it…but I’m hopeful!

Still, even on those not-so-productive days, writing is the best job ever and I wouldn’t change the opportunity to meet characters like Gabe Shannon for anything! I so hope you like him! Remember, DIRTY is 99 cents during release week or FREE on KU!

“I’ve been spending a lot of time at the bar,” I finally told her, not taking my eyes off the city scene. “And strip club, if you want me to be honest.” It was the truth, and probably expected in some ways. My reasoning, however, was anything but typical.

“Is it helping?” she asked, while scrawling in her notebook. She was always writing in that damn thing, and I couldn’t stand the sound of it—the dull scratch of pen on paper. Dr. Fielding, aka the shrink from hell, couldn’t help herself. She dissected every word I said. Of course, she came highly recommended and had an incredible reputation. Yet, frankly, I wasn’t seeing it. I’d been coming here for more than a month and she continued to treat me like I was some kind of depressed teenager or recovering addict, like this stage in my life was just a passing moment. As if I wouldn’t be stuck here forever.

Right.

“No, it’s not fucking helping.” I stood up and faced her, feeling the little control I had left begin to slip away. “And neither are these sessions, Doc.”

“What do you think would help?” Dr. Fielding didn’t move an inch as I paced the room, stopping to toy with her knickknacks on the bookshelf.

“Well, Tash –”

“Your stripper friend?” She interrupted.

“Well, that’s not how I’d characterize her,” I said, smiling now thinking about how Tasha would put the good doctor in her place after such a comment. “Plus, I think exotic dancer is more apropos these days.”

“Apologies.” She smirked. “Go on.”

“As I was saying,” I paused and raised a brow, just to be sure she wouldn’t interrupt me again. “Tasha wants to take me some place new tonight. But she said I needed to keep an open mind.”

I'm not sure, really, why I love prequel novellas, but I really, really do. I love the extra insight to characters before the true story begins for them.

And in this case, we get some insight to kinky Gabe -- who wasn't always into the club scene, who had a bit of a problem with his, mmhm, member. With the help of a friend, he discovers just what he needs to get back into business.

Gabe was a fun guy. I liked his smart mouth and sassy thoughts -- even when he was demeaning to himself and upset with his inabilities. Watching the beginning of his journey was hot and sexy, and the foreshadowing to the following book was great (I did start book one, but didn't get too far before I had this in my hands, so I chose to read Gabe's story in true time-order). I cannot wait for him to finally put the past in it's place and open himself up for love.

Clare James has the ability to write a great love story, and her steamy sexiness definitely pulls through in this novella (assuming the entire series).
