It’s a summer fling; just keep telling yourself that and you’ll be alright. This thing with Mason Pierce, it’s just a fling, something fun to pass the time. He’s a rebound from the disastrous breakup, a band-aid, a patch over a wound that will help the hurt heal, right? ~Red
If someone had told me two months ago that I’d be spending the summer with Red Summers in my arms, I’d have called them crazy, but here I am and here she is. Life is just about as perfect as it can be. Except, it feels like she’s pulling away instead of drawing closer. Everyday, it seems that Red is putting more and more distance between us, and I don’t understand why. ~Mason
“I’ve loved you since you were ten years old. Hell, I may have loved you before that, but I don’t remember. I’ve only ever wanted you, Red. I’m never going to want anyone else,” I vow. “Just you.”
I'm a twenty-something Okie girl who is mom to three, four if you count my husband. I'm a full time author/photographer, and I love to make teaser graphics to avoid actually working! I graduated from SOSU (a smaller, four-year university that is close to home) with a Bachelor's degree in English Lit and a minor in Sociology. I'm an avid reader, obviously, and a life-long writer. I love happily ever afters above all else (though, the struggle to get there is the best part!) Currently, I have two published series: Sealed and Like A Lady. Check out the first part to either series for free!
{ review } .
I had to opportunity to read the previous two stories in this series in addition to this latest release, FIX YOUR MAKEUP (I will be posting those reviews straight to Goodreads and Amazon in the next day or so).
My overall dislike for the series? The use of 'suga'. There are many phrases and such that scream 'country bumpkin' to me and quite honestly, it was a characteristic of Mary Lou (and, well... the whole lot of 'em) that annoyed me to the point of not wanting to read more.
The other little thing? The use of flashback. I feel that there is an appropriate way to utilize flashback, and felt that in this BIG GIRL PANTIES series that the series would have had more impact had the flashbacks been done differently. I completely understand the need for the the first moment in the first book to be what it was -- the scene laid the groundwork for all of Red's issues in the series, but again, I felt that some of the flashbacks were either unnecessary, or would have impacted at least me if done in a different way.
That all said...
The overall idea of this series kept me coming back and reading more.
In FIX YOUR MAKEUP, Red is dealing with the idea that Mason is becoming a big part of her life again, her friend's brother Cash has a serious crush on her, and Mason's sister, Mel -- who used to be good friends with Red before some mysterious blow up in high school -- still has a serious distaste for Red.
We're reminded that the big alter blow-up was only one month ago, which brings forth the common idea that once single, all the boys will flock -- and suddenly, Red is very popular with the boys. I like her relationship with Cash -- I really, really like Cash. But I have to say I'm team Mason -- even if he disappoints me a bit in this part.
While, yes, it's only been a month, I found myself annoyed with Red and her constant referral to how Jake treated her -- and when things get bumpy with Mason and her friends, she automatically lumps them in the group with Jake, and honestly? If she's so hung up on the bastard? She is not ready for a relationship -- and let's be 1,000% honest here: she'd been in a relationship for the last chunk of her life. It's time to just be single and learn who you are, Red. Who is Scarlett "Red" Summers, sans a significant other..?
So the writing style isn't my favorite, no, but the plot, the idea of the story, and the intricate web that is being weaved through each book? They all have me coming back for more -- and waiting for SAY A PRAYER.

Part One: Big Girl Panties
~ NOW FREE ~
Mom always tells me that when life gives you lemons you squeeze the heck out of them and hope for some lemonade, but after catching that no-good lying, jerk of a bastard cheating on me seconds before we were supposed to be married, I do what any self-respecting Southern girl would do: throw a punch and hide under my blankie. Now, Mary Lou thinks I need a night of fun and adventure. I agree to go out, planning to get her off my back, but when I find myself in Mason Pierce’s arms, I’m thanking my lucky stars, and my best friend. ~Red

Freemont, Oklahoma, is the last place on the whole damned planet that I want to spend my summer and working on my parents’ ranch is the last thing I want to do, but damned if that’s not what I’m doing. Monroe and I need a night away from this place, a night to blow off steam. A party at the lake sounds like a mighty fine idea, and after catching a glimpse of Red Summers in the firelight, I’m quickly changing my tune. ~Mason
