He’s in trouble with a capital T
There’s never been a female on the Dallas SWAT team and Senior Corporal Xander Riggs prefers it that way. The elite pack of alpha male wolfshifters is no place for a woman. But Khaki Blake is no ordinary woman.
When Khaki walks through the door attractive as hell and smelling like heaven, Xander doesn’t know what the heck to do. Worse, she’s put under his command and Xander’s protective instincts go on high alert. When things start heating up both on and off the clock, it’s almost impossible to keep their heads in the game and their hands off each other…

Paige Tyler’s sexy, action-packed SWAT series is back this August with the release of Wolf Trouble! To celebrate this latest release, Corporal Xander Riggs has agreed to sit down for a Q&A with us:
What is one thing that readers might not know about you?
“I was a cop for a long time in Kansas City in the narcotics division.”
{ excerpt } .
Xander had to pick his jaw up off the floor of the training room when Gage introduced the newest member of the SWAT team. He didn’t know what to expect, but it sure as hell wasn’t Officer Khaki Blake. Tall with an athletic build and just enough curves to fill out the SWAT T-shirt, she had the biggest brown eyes and softest looking lips he’d ever seen. She had her dark hair back in a bun, so he couldn’t tell how long it was, but he’d bet money it fell past her shoulders. She smelled way too good to be believed, too—like a slice of frosted spice cake in a uniform.
Shit. He was practically panting. If he didn’t get a grip soon, he was going to start drooling.
He gave the other guys a covert glance to see how they were dealing with her scent and was stunned to see that none of them reacted at all. Why not? His nose wasn’t that much better than theirs. He knew for a fact that several of the other guys—Cooper Landry and Jayden Brooks specifically—could smell a hell of a lot better than he could.
Maybe everyone was so mesmerized by finally getting to see a female version of their kind that the rest of their senses had stopped working.
Gage had left it up to Xander to fill the guys in on what had gone down at the meeting with Deputy Chief Mason while he’d headed home to get ready for his trip to Washington State. While the guys had been pissed that the top brass was playing politics with the team, they’d been intrigued at the idea of adding a female werewolf to the Pack.
They’d bombarded him with dozens of questions, none of which he could answer. Was she as fast and strong as they were? Did her abilities manifest themselves in completely different ways? Would she be as aggressive as they were and able to handle herself in a fight? Were there more like her out there, or was she the only one?
Not all the questions were so general. Brooks wondered what she would look like, Max Lowry wanted to know if she would smell like them, and Eric Becker… Well, Becker just wanted to know if she liked to wear yoga pants. God, that kid had an obsession with those things.
Xander had told them what he knew—that no one except Gage knew a damn thing about female werewolves. And Xander wasn’t so sure how much their commander knew, either.
While Xander was lost in thought, Gage turned the floor over to Khaki, who was currently explaining how much she appreciated the opportunity to be in SWAT.
“I know I won’t be handed anything, but I look forward to proving to every one of you that I belong in the Pack and on the team.” She spoke in a light, lilting voice that surprisingly filled the large classroom. Xander could definitely pick up the Midwest accent, so she probably wasn’t originally from the Pacific Northwest. “I’m not asking for anything from you but a chance to do prove myself.”

I enjoyed HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF and the idea behind the series hooked me from the beginning -- and the fact that the entire series has been brainstormed with the help of her hubby? Major props.
So while I enjoyed HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, I wasn't exactly sure how the series would progress and if I'd like any of the guys as much as I did Gage Dixon and his Mac(kenzie). Oh-ho, was I wrong.
I'm sure I'll say this again, but move over, Gage, I love love love a certain Xander Riggs, and I'm not sure anyone can top Xander and Khaki.
The SWAT boys were under the impression that there were only male werewolves, but when the city makes the team add some diversity to the group, namely a female, Gage steps up and produces a (short) list of acceptable women. His first, and only, stop is to try and recruit newly turned-werewolf, Khaki Blake.
Khaki doesn't know what's going on with her, but whatever it is, it allowed her to survive gunshot wounds -- so much so that they healed incredibly fast. After a job gone terribly wrong (to which she later learns her ex was semi-behind), Khaki no longer feels safe with her division. If she can't trust they have her back, what does she have? And while the hogwash Gage is trying to sell her on werewolves makes her want to roll her eyes, SWAT is an opportunity, in a new city even, that she absolutely does not want to turn down.
Immediately upon meeting her squad, though, she has mixed feelings. The guys all seem to welcome her enough, but her commander seems to dislike her. Ah, how wrong you are, Miss Khaki.
Xander isn't sure how his guys are going to work with a female on the squad, let alone a female that smells as good as Khaki.
Xander was so busy figuring out how to breathe without overdosing on her scent... That was when reality kicked back in and reminded Xander that the woman he just spent the past fifteen minutes mentally undressing was going to be in his squad, and that he was going to be her supervisor.
He was in so much trouble.
He pushes her hard and helps her fine-tune her skills, as well as unearth one that the rest of the boys don't have. Eventually he realizes the reason why she smells so incredibly well to him has everything to do with The One -- capital T, capital O.
I absolutely loved Xander and Khaki. Khaki again and again fought to prove herself but was unsure what she was doing wrong in Xander's eyes. She was terribly attracted to him, but knew that there was no way that grumpy man would ever have eyes for her. Talking with Mac, though, she learns a few more things about the werewolf lifestyle that Xander and co. didn't get to.
Mac proved to be an awesome friend for Khaki. She's also a great counterbalance to Gage, putting him in line a time or two, or pointing out the obvious to the group of male werewolves.
I thoroughly enjoyed the journey between Khaki and Xander. I loved that the story wasn't set up like a typical romantic suspense -- there is, of course, a plot twist that will get both thinking forever and always, but they're both very much aware of their romantic stance semi-early into the story. It's only a matter of convincing Gage that everything will be ok.
I loved how the guys accepted Khaki -- and how they gave Xander crap for being mean toward her. I loved Cooper and how he willingly becomes a middle man (and love how he informs Xander that he knew what was going on between the two of them by his snapping and shaking his head -- his wolf was coming out).
"You may not realize it, but I'm a diehard romantic at heart, and you two make a hell of a cute couple." --Cooper
I really love Becker and his silly ways... I loved Becker from the beginning of this book. At the moment, I don't remember anything of him in HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, but here? Loved him -- and his obsession with say, yoga, for example, because you know... your hamstrings will thank you.
-- and he's next!! I can't tell you how excited this makes me. So one of those first comments I made? The one about maybe no one topping Xander and Khaki..? Becker has that ability (...but so does Cooper).
