What happens when nothing is as it seems?

Lexi Dare is on a one-woman mission to stay alive. Both at home and at work. Because how did she end up with a ring on her finger and an abuser in bed as she readies to hit the high point in her career? Everything should be perfect. Amazing job. Handsome fiancé. It's all a disaster.

Parker Black is the brains behind Titan Group, an elite security firm. In his world, everything is ordered and controlled, except what he feels for his buddy’s girl. Something in her eye screams for help, but he has no idea what.

When Lexi disappears, Parker realizes what he should have known. The lines blur between friendships and work, and they must find each other to survive a terror attack that only Lexi can stop.

Black Dawn can be read as a standalone and does not have a cliffhanger.

There are a few authors that when they release books, I go major fan-girl.

There are books that I wait and wait and wait to be released, but then get lost in all the blog tours and whatnot that I participate in. You see, my order of books to read always gives tour books top billing, then author requests, NetGalley requests, and somewhere in there, there are the books that I am part of the general public and wait for.

...and then there are those books that aren't "due" until mid-July and it's mid-June and there's NO WAY I can possibly wait until July to read the book when it is in my possession.

That book would be BLACK DAWN.

The thing with BLACK DAWN though was that while I was excited for a new TITAN book, I wasn't as excited about it as a bunch of the other TITAN fangirls... but I did want to know how Parker's story worked out.

So I'm here to tell you:

If Parker wasn't necessarily your favorite Titan -- I mean, he does hang out in the background -- give the man a chance. He's just as phenomenal as those other TITAN boys.

What I loved probably the most with BLACK DAWN would probably be that Parker is just as bad-ass as the rest of the guys. He has a temper, he raises his voice, he can shoot guns just like the others (well, maybe not like Cash). And while I never laughed at the brains of the operation (someone has to be sure the guys get in and out of terrible situations), I never really gave the man full credit for what he does for the team -- and I absolutely love that for once we get to see the other side of the operation.

But here's the thing -- while the team can't manage everything without Parker, Parker, too, has someone he relies on. I have to be honest, though -- watching the interaction between Parker and his pretty long-time friend, SilverChaos, made me think of a bunch of high school boys with their Xboxes and fancy headsets, trying to beat the six year old that's playing online.

In an odd chance of missed meetings, Lexi and Parker almost met a few years ago while he was in town for a bachelor party and she was there for a... business meeting. Parker cut out early, and shortly after, Matt (Parker's friend) met Lexi. And while Lexi had her immediate issues with Matt, he must have done something right because we start the real story with her engaged to the man.

Lexi is a very strong female, but her weakness is needing to be wanted, needing a family. Things with Matt went downhill quickly and she can't get out. She finds an unexpected ally in the man she finds attractive, the man she knows is Matt's opposite... Matt's best friend, Parker.

Everything about this story was lovely. Lexi craves belonging, and she gets that in her online world -- she hopes she'd have that with Matt, too. Cristin goes dark again with this story -- not quite to the depths that belong to SAVAGE SECRETS but pretty damn close. Your heartstrings will be tugged.

Then there's that little fact that Every. Titan. Man...

Has a woman.

Every last one of them.

Heck, we also have three Delta members wifed up. So what does that mean for Titan?

Well... Someone has to take over when all these men go on paternity leave (you know damn well not a single one of those boys will leave his woman's side when he becomes a daddy). So while we don't meet-meet anyone new, we get some names and one of those names has history with Winters -- surely the man is good then, right?

Speaking of (my) Winters: be prepared for Colby and Mia! Winters and Parker are close friends. Mia is pretty much the team shrink as well as the team 'mom'. Without going too much into it -- we get to see a lot of Mia and Winters, and this made my heart a very happy heart.
