Love wasn't in the script...
Former man-eater Samantha Lockhart has been an actress long enough to be able to spot a smooth-talking player a mile away. Dark-haired, bourbon-eyed, a wicked smile…Kyle Masterson is one of the best.
From his bad-boy motorcycle boots to his good-ole-boy Southern drawl, everything about Kyle screams sex appeal. But after a tragedy hits close to home, Sam tries to convince herself she’s done with players on and off the stage.
Kyle, a V-twin-riding divorce attorney, has witnessed enough horror stories of love gone wrong to know that while women are welcome in his bed, they’re definitely not in his future. But once the petite, mercurial redhead catches his eye, he can’t think of anything—or anyone—else.
Sam’s trust doesn’t come easy, but the more time they spend together, the deeper they both fall. Yet just as they’re breaking through each other’s barriers, someone who doesn’t like being upstaged makes a deadly play of his own. And if Sam refuses, she may not be able to breathe a word to anyone…ever.
Warning: Contains a small-town thespian who isn’t easily fooled and a lawyer with a weakness for V-twin engines and sassy redheads.

A woman with the heart of a revolutionary,
The mind of a pragmatist,
And the inappropriate humor of your tipsy BFF...
Born in California and raised in South Florida, I've moved around like a gypsy with a bounty on my head ever since. Along the way, I've worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, an art teacher, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts and follow-through to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I am tickled pink with glitter over this good piece of fortune.
What else? Hmm...I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it's slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds),and making those close to me laugh 'til they snort. I'm a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil' town, Vienna, Virginia. I totally love hearing from readers so stalk me via social media or email me at HarperKincaid26@gmail.com!

I really love series. I've found recently that I enjoy series that follow just one couple, but I have always loved series that follow a group of friends, or a group of siblings, or even an entire town. The BREAK ON THROUGH series is following a group of friends.
HEART BREAKER starts at about 60% into RULE BREAKER (yes, I opened up the book just to figure this out). Ok, wait, back up -- this book actually has a prologue a few months prior, but the true story begins at the Super Bowl party that Jackson and Lauren throw, that Jackson gets into it with their parents. I liked that scene then, and I liked that scene now.
At said party, Kyle was eyeing Samantha from afar, something that both her sister and best friend pointed out. Samantha hasn't done the whole 'public thing' up to that point, so she's a little rusty when it comes to socialization. But one thing she does know is that Kyle is Abercrombie while his friends, Jackson and Co., are Sons of Anarchy.
While she doesn't exactly say she wants his number, Jackson pulls the good-friend card (even though Samantha is Lauren's neighbor and therefore Lauren's friend -- but what is Lauren's is Jackson's, and he treats Samantha like a good friend) and tells Samantha to steer clear of Kyle -- he's not a forever guy, not a settle down guy, and he likes his one-night-only gals.
Warning in place, Samantha decides what the heck -- the last thing she believes in is happily ever after. Who said she was looking for a commitment anyway? She's an actress, after all, and acting takes precedence in her life. Well... it did before she became a social recluse. However, she does take a step back -- she really isn't up for the dating game.
With the help of her sister, though, Kyle manages to surprise Samantha a few times in one evening, and with that, everything begins.
I enjoyed both Samantha and Kyle's characters. Samantha was a bit ballsy -- definitely an actress. She did drama well, but she also knew how to play the cards in her favor. Even when she was dating, she didn't choose the best men -- such as the first one we're introduced to. His actions were childish and still she chose to go out with him.
Kyle isn't childish by any means. The man is a bit... jaded, I think... when it comes to relationships. As a divorce lawyer, I sometimes feel that you have to be. Just a little. But he's always up front with Samantha. He makes mistakes, but he owns up to them. He's also a bit quirky, which I love to see in an alpha man -- it doesn't take away from his dominating presence in the story; just makes you like him a little bit more.
I enjoyed watching Kyle and Samantha both moving on from their playing ways. They both knew how to play the game, and they both played it well -- until they found their match in one another.
And, of course, being the epilogue lover that I am -- I have to say theirs? Oh, Kyle, if I didn't love you before, I certainly loved you at that point.
Who's next..? Max (with his dark op ways)? Jessica? Max and Jessica..?
