I haven't read the first book in this series, but if watching Fury and Kentlee in this book is any indication of what their story was like... My goodness, I want to go back and read them.

As it was, this book was for Kentlee's sister, and in a bit of a twist, her high school love -- who also happens to be in the same MC as Fury.

Brentlee was in love with Bates when she was fifteen. When he left for the Marine Corps, he told her to not wait for him -- not because he didn't love her, but because she had many years to live and with a person as lively as she was, he didn't want to hold her back. Rather than seeming like a bad move, it was actually written in a way that Bates seemed incredibly selfless where his love for Brentlee was concerned. He told her not to wait for him -- but that didn't stop him from trying to keep an eye on the one woman he loved.

Bates is in an MC, so of course we watch as he sleeps with other women, all while trying to figure out how to keep Brentlee out of his mind -- especially when he learns just what kind of life she fell into after he left. He holds a lot of guilt over Brentlee's life -- and again, the good guy vibes come out for him.

I enjoyed these two, and liked that the plot line wasn't the typical -- fall in love, and wait until the last chapter for everything to become resolved. There's a lot of personal growth as well as emotional growth. Their story certainly isn't easy -- and that's something that Bates can attest to.

I'm so glad that I gave this book a chance; I will be going back to read book one, as well as being on the look out for book three!
