Ryder “Playboy” King is what everyone calls me, in and out of the octagon. I’m fine with being known as a Playboy. I’ve turned it into an art form. A big smile, charm, and a little flattery - and my needs are easily met. Besides, giving a shit can get a man hurt – I’d rather get in and out in one piece.

Enter Tessa Jameson. One fiery lust filled moment with her, is not enough. If anything, it leaves me wanting more, but she’s not interested. Me? I know I’ve met my match – I want more. She thinks men only want sex. I’m determined to prove her wrong. But it isn’t easy. The closer I get, the more I want.

Lust, is the act of taking. Love, is the act of giving. Can I continue to give and not take? Can two bruised people long committed to a lust filled life be willing to change - to love? Will lust just be another beatable opponent? I think so.

Until I'm knocked to my knees with a blow I never see coming.

Jennifer
Author Jennifer Miller was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, but now calls Arizona home. Jennifer’s love of reading began when she was a small child, and only continued to grow as she entered adulthood. Ever since winning a writing contest at the young age of nine, when she wrote a book about a girl with a pet unicorn, she’s dreamed of writing a book of her own. Quickly learning that dreams don’t just fall into your lap, she knew she had to chase them herself and not be afraid to dream a little bigger. Most importantly, she is a wife and mother, and is very lucky to have a family that loves and supports her in all things. She also has an unhealthy addiction to handbags and chocolate covered strawberries, neither of which she cares to change.

{ review } .

Two books in a row that I've read, dealing with a hero who was completely broken after losing the love of their lives at a young age.

-- and both were done fabulously.

Ryder received a phone call no one ever wants to get -- and the ensuing years have him taking on a playboy persona, because the last thing he wants or needs in life is to become attached to a woman again, only for her to be ripped away from him.

He wasn't expecting a one night encounter to show up in his room at the hospital when he needs stitches. He certainly wasn't expecting the firecracker, quick wit ways of her either.

What else didn't he expect? That him -- a one and done man -- had been thinking about this woman again and again. The guys at the gym even mercilessly tease him about it (gosh, I just loved Cole and Levi!).

Tessa, too, is a one-and-done woman, so when Ryder shows up in her nursing care, she's taken aback -- although only slightly. She reads him well, and the fiery attitude that will define her throughout the book comes out in spades. I truly enjoyed her character! More than that, though, I loved watching Ryder open up and be the caring person he has every ability of being. His support is unwaivering at some of her darkest times, and I definitely lost a little piece of my heart to him.

Tessa's and Ryder's pasts are about to intertwine. These two people who refuse to be in a relationship, who fear they are broken on many intimate levels... these two people will find that they have more in common than they realized. Will they be able to find solace in one another? Or will their entangled pasts be their demise...?

Definitely an enjoyable tale -- and one in a series I cannot wait to further explore.
