SOURCE: INKSLINGER
To love a Dark One is to invite death...It is wrong to love her.It is worse to want her.It is sin to consume her.I desire all three.I've been given thirty days to prove my love to another immortal--as a human. Cursed to use nothing but the side of myself I've always despised to win her affection. I am Cassius, the King of the immortals, A Dark One.And today I tasted fear for the first time. How can I win her when my human emotions over take every ounce of logic I possess?A darkness is brewing. One I cannot stop as a human. One that Stephanie, my loves visions, have shown, will be my end.Thirty days ago I was King of the immortals.Today I know fear.Today I know how I will die.By her hand. The woman I love.

I live read this puppy yesterday on Twitter so I didn't take as many notes as I typically do when reading, but I can tell you this --
- Rachel's ability for banter is back, and it is SPOT. ON. This group of people is so fun to read -- especially when they have no qualms with teasing Cassius.
- Mason. Oh, Mason, how I love thee and your pinecones. However, my heart is still breaking for him.
- Stephanie... as a siren, on paper, I have a hard time with the idea that anyone could fall in love with her. However... Cassius's feelings have always been there -- we saw them previously -- so it was easy to believe his feelings from his view point. And it made Stephanie's fears and insecurities feasible -- even if annoying at times.
- And that epilogue! Cassius and his one-upmanship... Alex and Mason... Oh, I cannot wait.
Rachel started this book with a twist -- and put a couple others throughout, and I found that to make the story more enjoyable. On top of that, Rachel has this ability to make a group of people/friends/families and make at least one the one that readers have the ability to detest. And this time, she took that person and gave him his book second. Because let's be honest -- Rachel does like to build up the hatred towards certain characters and then RIP HER READER'S HEARTS OUT.
Just sayin'.
In the end... Another enjoyable RVD book and a great second book to this DARK ONES saga. I did like Ethan and Genesis's story a bit more (oh, and how I loved Ethan in this book too), and the build up for Alex's book has me super excited. But this is RVD -- I don't think she can write a terrible book.
