Criminal. Killer. Monster. Ethan Barclay has been called many things in life, and he usually doesn't care what people say about him. He's tough, hard, and brutal when he needs to be. But even the most dangerous of men can have a weakness. Ethan's weakness has--and always will be--Carly Shay.
Their pasts are tied together--twisted and melded by blood and death. Walking away from Carly was the hardest thing that Ethan ever did, but it was also his one good deed. He knew Carly deserved far better than him, and he wanted her to have a perfect life, a life that didn't involve paying for Ethan's sins.
Only now the secrets from their past have been revealed, and Carly's life is on the line. Ethan's enemies, Carly's enemies--the predators are closing in on them. But Ethan isn't going to let Carly be threatened. He will move heaven and hell to protect her. He won't lose Carly, not again, and for those foolish enough to try and take her from him...they are about to see just how deadly Ethan truly can be.

This book gets the full 5 for the simple fact that Cynthia Eden and went and made me love a man I didn't think could be loved...
Ethan Barclay... Man, you surprised me. In the past few books, as a reader, we were lucky to get a few glimpses of this man -- some not so pleasant, some cocky, but then there was the emotional turmoil he experienced with Julianna and Carly -- you knew without a doubt, there was a story in there somewhere.
I loved Ethan. I didn't think I'd say it, but I did. There you have it. We start this book with pretty much the beginning of the nastiness of what Ethan is -- before it all, though, he was a good guy who had made bad choices. He pushed Carly away to keep her safe -- and she hated him for it. When she was broken and needed someone to keep her sane, the one person she needed didn't want her.
But, oh, au contrair, my dear... He always knew where she was.
Watching Ethan fight to prove his love for Carly was so much fun. I loved watching this tough as nails man and see his true weakness -- none other than Carly. But there's something he wasn't truly expecting -- Carly grew a backbone for herself, and fighting for Carly isn't nearly as simple as he thought it could possibly be.
I'm so glad Cynthia came through with a story of Ethan. I loved learning how Ethan became the man he was, and seeing the true good this man possesses. This is certainly one of my favorite series of Ms. Eden's.
