Control.
It's what Ryan Sloan values most. Control of his business, control of his secrets, control of his days and nights. With the way his life spiraled in the past, he needs to stay in charge of his present.
Giving up control.
It's what Sophie Winston craves. After a wildly successful career, she's stepped away from the business world and is now focused on her work as her city's most noted philanthropist. When she meets Ryan Sloan, the chemistry is scorching, and utterly undeniable. Their desire for each other runs red hot. He wants everything she's willing to give him in bed, and she wants him to take her to new heights as only he can.
Soon, he has to have more. All of her -- heart, mind and body.
The only trouble is, he hasn't been honest about how he met her and the dangerous connection he has to her brother. When the truth is revealed, he'll have to give more of himself than he's bargained for or risk losing the only woman he's ever let into his heart.

I had enjoyed Shannon and Brent's book. I liked Lauren's writing style and I had a feeling I was going to like this Sloan family...
I was not prepared for the love I would have for big brother Ryan.
We get more of the family's backstory in this installment of the series (a series that is following the children of a convicted person), and with it, we see just how much Ryan has been pulling for the family. He's great with his siblings, but has always had a sense of responsibility where their mother was concerned. He's the child who visits her in jail. He's the child who holds her dreams in his hands. He's the child who knows without a doubt that she is innocent...
I knew that when Sophie learned that Ryan's mom was the case her brother was working on, the proverbial poo was going to hit the fan. That was one of those "you know it's going to happen, just let it happen already" moments of the book. Thankfully, though, I didn't get as annoyed with this line as I typically do in stories -- I was too caught up in the growing romance between Sophie and Ryan.
Of Sophie and her brother, she's definitely the more... flamboyant of the two. Not that she's out there and crazy, no, but she's a little more fun than her detective brother. I loved the way Lauren wrote her character. I loved her dresses and her makeup, and I loved her personality. Her spunk and fire was definitely a great difference to Ryan's ways.
With as great of a sibling and son Ryan was, I have to say I was a bit taken aback by who he was behind closed doors -- but my goodness, I liked the man. I loved Ryan and Sophie's flirtatious ways -- it started right at their meeting and carried on throughout their story. I respected Ryan for his change of heart when he realized who Sophie was; did he question trying to get information out of her? Yes, but he ended up wanting more from her, and he left that in the past.
My biggest drawback with this story would probably have to be the overuse of the term "fucking" -- at the beginning of their 'relationship', sure, great, whatever. But as their feelings were growing and both were wanting more from the other, it started to feel like it was cheapening what they had.
