Since being first introduced to HOT in HOT SHOT, I've wanted to read Lucky's story.
All in all, I very much liked this book. I'm excited the pick up the rest of the HOT series -- maybe I'll start with Kev and Lucky's, because she intrigues me with her quiet demeanor, her scars, and her way of seeming on the outside of the wives circle (which is entirely her own doing; the other ladies love her).
Oh, don't get me wrong -- I wanted to read the rest of the series, too, but I really wanted to know Lucky's story. She's such a strong woman, who can be bold and brave, but she's also quiet and can be withdrawn (at least she can appear to be).
And then there's Kev. He obviously adores her and let's her be the free, exuberant woman she can be, while at the same time, keeping her closely guarded to him in his ways.
'Kev looked up at his new wife with an expression Jack hadn't ever thought he'd see on the other man's face. The two of them had spent plenty of time seeing who could charm the panties off a woman first. It had been a contest of sorts, and they'd been pretty evenly matched.
'But Kev wasn't charming the panties off anyone but Lucky these days...'

'In fact, Big Mac was glaring at them all as Lucky shimmied out of her jeans and stood there in one smoking-hot bikini. Her skin was scarred along her arms and back, but it didn't detract from her beauty in the least. She was tanned, toned, and hot enough to make water steam...
'"Fetch me a drink, would you sweet cakes?"
'That last was directed at Kev who miraculously didn't get pissed. "I'll do better than that. I'll rub oil on your back."
[...]
'"Man, how in the hell are you going to manage that without losing focus? This ain't your honeymoon, bro."
'Kev's eyes narrowed. "You want to keep those teeth of yours, jackass?"
'Ryan held up both hands. "Hey, if you can do it without getting distracted, you're a better man that I am."
'"Already fucking knew that," Kev growled.
'Lucky put her hand on her husband's arm. "Seriously, you're getting pissed over this? First, he has a point--you do get distracted easily when, uh..." She cleared her throat. "Second, Flash, darlin'," she said, mimicking her husband's accent. "You remember what I did to Al Ahmad?"
*excerpts from HOT SHOT
Pretty much those two instances were what made me need to read Lucky and Kev's story. That, and I needed to know what she did to Al Ahmad...
I'm typically drawn to other books in series based off of the male characters. You can find that in many of my reviews... And while I love Kev and I love the way he loves Lucky, it's really Lucky who drew me into this book.
DANGEROUSLY HOT by Lynn Raye Harris
Watching Lucky move over her hurdles, and watching Kev open his arms and heart (fully) to Lucky was a wonderful experience.
Finally, while HOT still has a few operatives who need their happily ever afters, this book does show you (introduce you?) to the fact there are other HOT units... and I kinda would like to delve into their personal bubbles too.

The world’s most wanted man is back from the dead. And only one woman can stop him…
Former Army linguist Lucky San Ramos escaped with her life, but the scars an evil terrorist leader left on her skin are a constant reminder of her captivity. Now her tormentor is back—and so is the sexy Special Operations soldier she once loved.
HOT operator Kevin “Big Mac” MacDonald rescued Lucky the last time. And then he walked away when he couldn’t be what she needed. When Lucky married his teammate, Kev knew it was for the best. But now Marco is dead and Lucky is no longer safe.
When Kev and Lucky team up to capture a terrorist, they’ll have to pretend to be man and wife on an explosive military mission to a war-torn nation. With time running out and the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Kev and Lucky play a perilous game of cat and mouse with a madman during the day.
But at night, they battle the secrets of the past and the sizzling attraction that threatens to endanger the mission. Lucky shouldn’t want the man who abandoned her once before. But the passion between them is sinfully, sensuously, dangerously hot… and proving impossible to resist.

Sometimes when I read books that I'm super stoked about, I tend to disappoint myself. The book wasn't written the way the others were, the development wasn't on par, it just.... wasn't.
...but DANGEROUSLY HOT was.
It was everything I could have wanted and more.
...and while I went into it loving Kev and loving how he loved Lucky, and reading the book specifically for Lucky's backstory... I fell head over heels in love with the two of these characters.
Kev has been in love (er, lust) with Lucky since he's known her. But after a mission gone bad, Kev doesn't figure he deserves her, so he lets his best friend, who also 'likes' Lucky, comfort her and be her rock. Lucky and Marco go through her hurdles and settle into a life together, but unfortunately, Lucky never gets over that one last hurdle.
However, before they can work it out or move on, Marco is killed.
Now Kev is in a terrible spot. He's grieving for Marco, needs Lucky for a mission, and just plan ol' needs Lucky -- but how can he live with himself if he goes after his best friend's widow?!
Lynn writes extremely well. She does a good job of portraying emotion without simply only writing, "Lucky was frustrated".
'Frustrated, she aimed and squeezed again. And again the shot missed the outline of the body, though it did hit the paper this time.
'Lucky growled in frustration. She didn't have time to be so bad. She had to get this right because her life depended on it.
'She lifted the gun again, determined to hit the motherfucking outline this time.'I don't know about you, but I could feel her frustration. The wordage was right on point.
If you read DANGEROUSLY HOT, what was your favorite Lucky/Kev moment?
