I don’t believe in destiny. In fate.Or in soul mates. But I believe in Hawke. My life has never been whole since my parents left forever. I have my brother, someone I can barely tolerate most of the time, and I have my best friend, Marie. And I have myself. But when Hawke walks into my life, there’s an immediate connection. Our eyes lock and an unspoken conversation is exchanged. For the first time in my life, I actually feel something. But he doesn’t.He keeps me at arm’s length and pretends there’s nothing between us when there clearly is. I’m not the kind of girl to wait around for any guy, so I don’t.But that doesn’t mean he isn’t in the back of my mind. Our paths cross again in a way neither one of us expect and it changes everything. Was it destiny that made it happen? Was it fate?Or was it something else?
{ about e.l. todd } .
Amazon Bestselling author, E. L. Todd, was raised in sunny California where she still lives today, claiming it’s the best place in the country. Easily hypothermic and hateful of the cold, she prefers to be warm all year round. She attended California State University, Stanislaus and received her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, but still pursued her dream to be a writer. She’s written several novels and many series’, and her imagination can’t seem to stop. She tries to find the good in people and she exploits that in her writing, proving that people can make mistakes and rise above their past. Her hobbies include sunbathing, swimming, eating at Surf Taco in San Diego, reading, and learning everything she can about hippopotamuses’, her favorite creature. Her greatest dream is to make people forget about the harshness of reality and dive into a good story with lovable people. When fans tell her they love her work, it gives her the greatest sense of accomplishment.{ review } .
So....
This entire 5-part series comes out today, and if I had an extra $20 on me, I'd totally be 1-clicking ALL THE BOOKS today -- it is that good. And if it takes until Friday for these two to get to happily ever after? My goodness, I need at least Friday to get my epilogue on, so I can rest assured that the rest of the books will keep my heart happy.
But this review is for book one, Monday.
I have read only one or two other E.L. Todd titles, but this one definitely kept me 100% interested. In this beginning, we meet Frankie and Hawke, and watch as their initial interactions slowly become something more. Frankie, at the urging of her friend, talks to the cute customer (that her friend found super attractive, mind you), and the two of them hit it off. Watching as they start the slow dance of friends to more was a lovely weaving, but the end... Oh my heart, the end... and to know that their story spans FIVE BOOKS?!?! Not sure my heart can handle all that Frankie and Hawke so separated...
Hawke proves himself to be an A+ alpha male, book boyfriend material, lead character. I absolutely loved him from the beginning, and seeing his inner battles had my heart aching. While I want to see these two get to their happily ever after, honestly it's Hawke and his need to be mended and to be loved that has me itching for the rest of the books.
This was a great beginning, even if it's only 20% of their story. I loved this beginning to the plot line, and the multi-dimensional characters. Soon, the other four will be in my hands, and I cannot wait!
