MAY 5 || release day { reviews }

I'm going to try something a little different for my release day ARCs that I don't manage to get reviewed before publication, and that's going to be one post for all the releases that day. Some weeks that's only one book, but others that could be 7, 8... 9. Granted, some of these days have books that I'm touring with, so these rd{r} posts will just deal with the books that aren't tour ones.

So... Happy release day to:

Sky Lopez thought she had it all—the perfect job, the perfect relationship, the perfect life…until she discovers her not-so-perfect boyfriend has been cheating on her. So when her uncle asks her to help plan his Hamptons wedding, Sky jumps at the chance, leaving all of her “perfect” future plans in the rearview mirror.

The wedding doesn’t prove as good a distraction as she’d hoped, because when her relatives and friends find out she’s single, they put Sky in their match-making sights. Never mind that she’s only twenty four. Never mind that she doesn’t want to settle for anyone other than Mr. Right. Seemingly everyone in Sky’s life wants her to get married and have babies. Like, yesterday.
So when Hayden—a sweet, sexy roofer—plummets through the ceiling and practically falls into her lap, she can’t help but think that maybe nice guys do just fall from the sky.

Soon Sky finds herself juggling crumbling wedding plans, the cheating ex who's trying to win her back, the cute plastic surgeon her family thinks is perfect for her, and the hot roofer she can't seem to get off her mind.

As the wedding date draws closer, Sky will need to choose one—or none—to keep herself from falling off the ledge, and maybe into love.

I read book one, Luck on the Line, a few months ago and I loved it. I loved Lucky and James, and their bantering, their love, their way of communicating... I just loved them. So needless to say, I was super pumped to read the rest of this series.

When I first started reading this title, I was sad that the series didn't seemingly connect. I mean, I get standalone books in a series, but surely a series as to have something that will connect the books, right?!

Oh, yes... No worries, worry-wart Mignon... There's a connection. Sky, our main character and the voice of the book, is newly single -- her boyfriend of many years, who her family swore she'd marry, cheated on her with an older woman, Stella.

Connection? Lucky's mom.

Surprisingly enough, to both me and Sky, Sky has developed a friendship with Lucky.

So anyway. Sky determines to be single for a while, she's done with men. Her family, though, wants her married off and will stop at nothing to get her to date other men. Sky swears she won't date again until a good guy falls at her feet...

...and cue cute, humurous, good-natured half-naked man falling through her ceiling.

I really liked Hayden. I liked that Sky didn't give in to his flirtatious ways and held back her name for a few days, too, but I liked that Hayden wanted to get to know her and kept pushing. He wasn't annoying about it, by any means, but he wasn't going to let her say no. Sure, he let her use the "we can be friends" schpeel, but in a little bit of time, Sky found herself wanting to spend more time with him, wanting to talk to him.

River, Sky's friend, has her moments in this book -- enough for you to want to figure her out. I'm very happy to see that she's the key player in book three!

SHE'S GOOD AT HER GAME.
Raina Easton never dreamed she'd end up playing ring master to a bunch of baseball cheerleaders. But when the New York Saints offers her a job to coach its new squad--the Fallen Angels--Raina can't refuse. As the owner of a burlesque club, she can certainly show the girls more than a few good moves. But as for her new boss? That is, as they say, a whole 'nother story. . .

AND HE'S GOT IT BAD.
Army veteran, biker, and all-around tough guy, Malachi Coulter isn't your typical sports-team owner. For one thing, he doesn't think cheerleaders belong on the baseball field. Another: he can't seem to separate business and pleasure when he meets his somewhat scandalous new employee. Seems the major-league bad boy has met his match in the gorgeous, feisty Raina. All's fair in love and baseball…could it be that, after all this time, Malachi is playing to win?

Raina has sworn off of bad boys, and if there's one vibe she gets while looking at Malachi, it's the bad boy vibe. Pair that with the fact that he's part owner of the baseball club that she's coaching a dance team for... Yeah, spells trouble.

Malachi has had his fill of women. His ex did a number on him, and he's just through. His eye is drawn to the pixie of a dancer on his baseball field, though, and while he wants nothing to do with her -- c'mon, who puts a cheerleading team with a baseball team? -- he can't help but want her. He finds himself at the Burlesque club that she owns and while he tells himself it's for no reason other than... Well, for no reason at all... he eventually owns up to the fact that he wants her and he will have her.

While his two best friends and co-owners of the Saints baseball team have fallen for and are marrying women that work for them for the Saints organization, Malachi doesn't want to be like them -- but of course it happens. When you fight something hard enough... well, fate has a way of making things work regardless.

The beginning of this book read quickly and certainly sucked me in. I do wish for a little bit more at the end, though. I'm greedy like that -- I need a definite happily ever after kind of end. As all three of these owners are paired off now... Well, I'd still like to see more of these friends.

Name: Kendra Carlsen
Rank: Trainer, Dept. of Covert Ops
Objective: Get out of the office and into the field

Name: Declan MacBride
Rank: Tracker, Dept. of Covert Ops
Status: Bear Shifter
Objective: Protect Kendra at all costs

The steamy Costa Rican jungle brings out the bear in Declan MacBride when he and new operative Kendra Carlsen are ambushed. In the midst of relying on each other to survive, and fighting his explosive attraction to Kendra, this shifter is about to lose control...

You know how you have authors that are just your go-to for certain styles? Heart-wrenching style? Nicholas Sparks. Cute contemporary? Jill Shalvis. You know that these authors will never let you down.

I'm learning that Paige Tyler is my go-to for paranormal.

Right away from the beginning of HER WILD HERO, you know (without actually knowing) that Declan is special. Not in, oh my gosh, he's handsome and a stand-out, kind of special, but that he's different. His hearing and sense of smell are extremely evident, and it's something that rather than pride himself in... well, he chooses to seclude himself.

At the beginning of this story, Declan is coming out of a long-term relationship and is a forest ranger. After scaring his ex at the monster he becomes, he chooses seclusion. Never again does he want that monster to come out. Because that's what he is... a monster.

He learns that he's actually a shifter, and a rare bear at that -- and while he doesn't want to believe in it, he decides to see what this man has to offer him in this operations type world.

I loved the vulnerability of Declan. He wasn't from a family of shifters, he didn't understand shifting... In fact, even when he learns to accept this aspect of him, he truly doesn't completely accept it and tries to keep it hidden. Regardless of all the others around him, he still sees himself as a monster.

It takes Kendra for him to learn how to control his shifting; it takes Kendra to learn that he's an exceptional man -- not a monster. It is a learning theme that takes a good chunk of their enfolding relationship to get to, but he'll get there.

I loved the suspense of this story and I loved the plot. I loved Declan's growth -- emotionally and mentally. And I loved that Kendra, who fought so hard for the positions she wanted, wanted to fight for Declan.

He's raising the stakes.
International playboy Alex St. James always plays to win. Whether it's betting on a high-stakes card game--or bedding a high-class socialite--the gorgeous world-class gambler knows how to beat the odds using his brains, his body, and a whole lot of charm. But there's one woman who's immune to Alex's bag of tricks--which makes her the perfect challenge…and the ultimate prize.

She's going all in.
Once a special operative in her native Russia, Katya Ivanov knows what kind of man Alex is. As his personal bodyguard, she's seen him seduce the richest women, place the riskiest bets, and break the hardest players. But to even a score from her past, she's willing to take a gamble on her reckless boss. Even if she has to pretend to be his lover. Even if he drives her mad with desire. And then she never wants this dangerous game to end…

So often when one thinks of a body-guard book, you're going to think a man protecting a woman.

Oh, but that's not the case in this book. We have Alex, who needs the guarding, and Katya, the one providing the guarding. In the beginning, you find (ok, so I found) Alex to be a bit of a schmuck. He's a playboy through and through, and you get that right away as he's in bed, flanked by two ladies. When he walks into the living area of his apartment and finds Katya hanging around, he offers an apology for the noise.

See? Schmuck.

Katya does really well at keeping her straight face and not letting him get to her. She's extremely good at her job -- however, right now she needs to go back home.

Watching these two fight attraction and save face in the light of danger was thrilling. I enjoyed this story and look forward to others in the series!
